We started by taking photographs of people exhibiting postive relations during finals periods. We then decided to research why people may seek eachother during finals. We found a paper by Chris Segrin and Kristina Rynes that explains our observations. In their paper, "The mediating role of positive relations with others in associations between depressive symptoms, social skills, and perceived stress" the authors describe how positive relations were negatively associated with depression. Additionally, the authors explain people with depression reported higher levels of perceived stress.Positve relations can help attenuate elevated levels of stress and depression. Thus, it makes sense that during finals period people will rely on positive relations. This component of well-being can help relieve the feelings of depression and stress that are often felt during final exam periods.
