Introduction

Our exhibit links together four pieces of artwork with the idea that the viewer is involved in the communication and experience of pleasure and pain. Each piece communicates this duality of sensations in a different way and requires the viewer's participation to a varying degree. Viewers participate by bringing context to each piece through the unique circumstances that they possess. This context directly connects to our interdisciplinary approach as personal narratives, historical awareness, and human biology all contribute to the viewer's experience of pain and pleasure.
